Almond Blossom, Vincent van Gogh, 1890

Theo van Gogh, Vincent’s close friend and brother, wrote to Vincent of the birth of his son, who he named after the artist. Van Gogh created this masterpiece of blossoming branches against the blue sky, and was meant as a gift it to his younger brother and his wife. The almond tree blooms early, signifying the coming Spring – the birth – and, subsequently, the new life in Theo’s world.
