Of course Torchwood has a dossier on each of the Winchesters.

Did they seriously go and fish the Samulet out of the trash?

wow how creepy is that. are they being thorough or are they just mega fangirls, who can say

Housekeeper thought it might have fallen in by accident and turned it in to the motel office, although she was weirded out by how the guests stole all the pillowcases and bed linens and the room smelled like gunsmoke.

It languished there for months until one of the desk clerks took it for her boyfriend. He didn’t like it as much as she thought he would, and passed it off to his kid brother, who lost it at school, where it was found by the school librarian.

As it so happens, the librarian had a sort of vested interest in the occult and guessed immediately that it might be a powerful protection amulet by the representation of an obscure Etruscan deity. Most people might be worried about how something like that ended up in a high school.

But this is Sunnydale. As far as Giles is concerned, weirder things have happened.

When things start to get VERY weird indeed in 2014, Giles is contacted by several agencies, all of whom know about the Slayer already. Oddly enough, Torchwood isn’t interested in what Buffy can do to avert the Croatoan epidemic.

They want to know if he’s seen a certain amulet, which was probably discarded or lost in a Sunnydale motel years ago. The description is uncanny.

Normally Giles wouldn’t help, natural suspicion and all that. But this is Torchwood. When he was training to become a Watcher, there was this thing in Cardiff. And several more things. And they kept him alive.

And Gwen Cooper is, as they say, a fox.
