So while the Meta is getting pretty thick; here is something else to add.

(1) Mary thinks,  (in my opinion) that there was more to the Sherlock/John Relationship. Not only that, but the statement, “Neither of us were the first, you know?” Seems as though she isn’t just trying to place herself as an equal with Sherlock, but trying to build some kind of bridge, equal ground.

***She knows that she will be found out eventually. You can’t be marrying the friend of the worlds foremost brain on mysteries, and not know that your secret will get found out. So there are moments when she tries to build ‘common ground’ with Sherlock. Muddying the waters a bit.***

(2) “I’ll talk him round.” This statement made me feel many things, anger at the foremost. But then more. I’ll explain the anger first and then branch out. Firstly, she is starting off her role, as though she is a manipulator. It is as though John can’t make his own decisions, that she just nudges him a bit in any direction she wants and then he will just agree. And that is disgusting. I am speaking from a military mindset, and a spouse mindset, this is so infuriating. I would hope that my spouse would never think that they could just put me where they wanted. And I would hope that I wasn’t so demeaned by them. Then the other part of this, was that she was already trying to set up a bridge with Sherlock. It was as if she was saying that she was on Sherlocks level, and that she was aware that Sherlock was John superior. This is ludicrous! How dare she start debasing their friendship, the very moment that it was trying to get back off the ground again (sorry for the pun). This is just a moment of pure evil from her. She is bringing her role down to two things. 1) I can do what I want with John. 2) You know how that is, don’t you Sherlock?

(3) Then as she is about to shoot Sherlock, or just after, she apologizes to him. I don’t think she in any way intended for him to live through the shot. But for the sake of those meta writers out there that say she was an assassin, so she didn’t miss on accident. Then even then, in that moment, as she is in the midst of ‘almost killing Sherlock’, she is manipulating him. She is even then, trying to find a way to bring him to her side. By almost putting the blame on his shoulders. Saying that, “Well it is your fault.” Like Sherlock walked into a bullet or something. Who ridiculous is that?!

SO I will stand by my hypothesis that Mary is not good. I don’t think she will be around much longer, or if she is, it will be in the role of an enemy, not a lover, or friend. She is a manipulating, frothing at the mouth, abuser, and destroyer of friendships and lives.

I 1000% agree with all of this, and I’d also like to add, about her saying
“I’ll talk him round.”, it also hit me that how dare she assume she knows more about John than Sherlock does. It immediately hit me that she was implying she has a greater power over John than Sherlock does, someone who has been his best friend for YEARS, has lived with him for years, and been through the wars -so to speak – together.

You’ve known him for less than a year. LESS THAN A YEAR. How dare you imply you know John better than Sherlock does. She’s so SMUG. I can’t bear it.

Oh god, it made my blood boil.

(to be fair, John and Sherlock knew each other for 18 months, if the blog timeline is to be believed. otherwise, 100% agreed)

I think the timeline is wonky, though. I always thought it was at least three years they were together, and Sherlock says, in the best man speech, that it took him “years” to get John’s middle name out of him. So, that goes against the timeline.

That’s my head canon. Three years together, two years apart. That’s where my head goes.

But really, who cares. It’s all about hating Mary and her smugness. : )
