Everyone seemed to have something to say. It was probably the almost matching outfits and the fact that they were nearly always standing next to each other. Hardly surprising that they were mistaken for a couple, there were a lot of rumours about them, always had been.
John had stopped denying it, stopped fielding the comments with ‘I’m not gay’ quite some time ago and Sherlock, well Sherlock hadn’t once made a denial. John turned to see Sherlock with his head back, long neck stretched, eyes closed to the warming sun. John’s eyes lingered and for once he let them.
One thing John could not deny to himself was that there was much more to him than ‘gay’ or ‘not gay’, it was considerably more complicated than that. Or maybe it wasn’t. Maybe it really was simple, maybe ‘it’s all fine’ was something he should start living by, instead of just saying.
