Bragging a bit… So I drew this little guy in the middle for Ian to sign since I had no picture to send and didn’t want to send a demand letter for an autograph alone. I told him I’d be happy to have him sign it (or would gladly trade for a spare picture of himself he had lying around). My letter outlined my three favorite roles he’s done that I’ve seen and how I hope to see him perform live one day. Today I received my caricature (signed “To Jessica, with love and best wishes, Ian Hallard), a 4×6 headshot with the same signature, and a handwritten note that extends to the back of the page.
The letter reads:
London, 6/4/14
Dear Jessica,
Many thanks for your letter. Lovely to hear from you and for your kindness about my performances. Glad you’ve enjoyed them so far. All 3 of the roles you’ve mentioned have happy memories for me.
Pantomime is such a British tradition over here – and I had a wonderful time in ‘Snow White.’ Equally, the part in ‘Doctors’ was a gift for an actor: lovely to be able to sign in it and also to use my native Birmingham accent. And as an Agatha Christie fan of many years to get to appear as a suspect in ‘Poirot’ was so thrilling.
I’m not sure I’ll make it to Texas to perform, but if it’s in the pipeline, I will be sure to tweet about it!
Very best wishes,
Ian x
I’m so very thrilled that he took the time to write such a detailed letter and sign both my drawing and a photo of himself. That was incredibly sweet of him and I’m going to be internally squeeing for the rest of my life.
The letter and my drawing did get a little crunched because my postman can’t read where it says DO NOT BEND on the envelope… dick head… but otherwise, it’s perfect.
Thank you, Ian Hallard, for being awesome.
