Your blog is fascinating. When I read your Mary/Restaurant post it reminded me of something that ‘popped’ in my head, not on first viewing, but in light of what follows, on second viewing it is clear. Moments before John is about to force through a ‘time for a life change – it’s all behind me now’ proposal, he echoes Sherlock’s “Girlfriend? Not really my area” in ASiP to waitor/Sherlock: “Not really my area”. Ostensibly talking about wine, but “Marrying a woman? Not really my area”!

Thanks! 🙂

Yeah, that’s a pretty fun parallel, right? Both set in a romantic restaurant, but in the first it’s John staring intently at an oblivious Sherlock…

“You don’t have a girlfriend, then?”

“Girlfriend? No. Not really my area.”

…and in the second it’s Sherlock staring intently at an oblivious John.

“These are all excellent vintages.”

“It’s not really my area. What do you suggest?”

Yeah Sherl, what do you suggest?
