I like the idea of Nymphjohn changing appearance when the seasons change. Like merindab wrote in this fic.
So I kind of…took it and ran with it. Thanks for the inspiration, Mer! <3
In spring he looks young, his hair is very light and his eyes are a clear blue. While being very busy with his duties, he’s very energetic and happy. He makes time to play with Fawnlock and they have many adventures together. Fawnlock has a lot to experiment with, and things to study, and he loves helping John taking care of the forest. They clean out their nest, and rebuild parts of it, decorating it with new fresh leaves and flowers.
In summer his hair, eyes and skin darken a bit. Around this time there are more humans around, and he needs to be alert. He spends time with Molly and Greg. They spend the long, warm nights talking and laughing together, and if Greg stays by the river more often than not, instead of going back up on the mountain, John doesn’t comment on it.
Fall is yet again a busy time, where Fawnlock tries to help as much as he can. John’s hair is a deep, warm blond colour and his eyes a dark blue. Fawnlock likes them like this. John is prone to bouts of melancholy this time of year, and Fawnlock tries to help him through them, remembering how John helps him when he is bored or listless. At night he snuggles close to John, and tells him stories and grooms him thorougly, listening to the rain and wind.
Winter makes John’s hair and eyes grey. He’s slower than usual, and sleeps a lot. But he still makes his rounds through the forest to check on plants and animals. He misses Molly, who sleeps under the ice. Greg stays up on the mountain, too, though he doesn’t sleep through the winter either. Fawnlock makes sure they have a warm and cozy nest, curls up around John and tells him how pretty the snow is. Almost as pretty as you, John tells him, fingers curled in the soft fur on Fawnlock chest. And they wait for spring to return.
