I’m so emotional about that “Sherlock would make things perfect for John’s return home” headcanon because it’s too canon. It is absolutely Sherlock in the napkin folding scene, all nervous and overcompensating. Sherlock absolutely pretending he’s cool and unaffected by the return. He says very warmly “of course you can come back, John. It is your home.” but other than that acts very casual about it and doesn’t want to overwhelm John or indicate in any way that this is a big deal.

But he hovers near the door when John is making tea in the kitchen and tries to offer to do things and does the grocery shopping in secret so John never has to and asks John is it’s okay that he’s playing the violin and oh god oh god oh god he keeps apologizing for things he would never apologize for before…like yes he would still pretend to be rude or abrupt but every once in a while he would get this vulnerable look on his face and he’d say sorry for sulking or for the mess or for ranting….

And John would eventually have to corner him and tell him to stop and tell him that he fucking likes living with Sherlock. He fucking loves living with Sherlock…doesn’t he know that, absolute fucking git? He loves this. He missed this. How can Sherlock apologize for being who he is…for living the way he does, when both of them love it so much? How could Sherlock not know that this makes John happy?

And Sherlock just looks at him and blinks blinks blinks and says: “I thought…I always thought you hated it”

And John just goes all soft and says: “I always loved it.”
