#oh man oh man#everyone knows steve rogers never backed down froma fight#and not only does bucky tell them to retreat here#he also orders them to surrender#that really tells you everything you need to know#bucky doesn’t go in for last charges or suicide runs#look at his face in the bottom right#that is a man who is weighing up pain and isolation and torture on the one hand#and death on the other#not just his own death#but all of his men too#that is a man who CHOSE to live on in hell#that is the man who HAD to learn how to back down from a fight#steve never had to learn that#bucky probably always had to#someone had to#it’s the worst position#to have to be the one who chooses which awful alternative you all take#and bucky’s ready#he can do that#someone has to be to blame (via ifeelbetter)

Zola got his hands on him and Bucky became the Winter Soldier because he did the right thing and chose to give himself and his men a chance rather than fight back and be slaughtered.
