“Hurry! Run!” It wasn’t often that Jack had to say those words to the Doctor instead of the other way round, but this was one of those times. He took the Doctor’s hand and pulled him along.
He’d been spending too much time pouring over the records in this archive, as if he could find something to bring his people back. Jack could understand that, but getting them both killed by security bots was not the way he wanted to go out. At least Rose was visiting her mother.
The Doctor fumbled with the key as they reached the Tardis door. Jack cast around for anything he could use as a weapon and found a shiny piece of broken metal. He stepped behind the Doctor and used it as a shield, deflecting the laser blast.
Finally the door swung open and they both stumbled inside. Jack chuckled and tossed the metal aside. It crumpled into dust and he blinked at it.“Good thing we didn’t stay out there any longer.”
But the Doctor was already at the controls, clearly wanting to put what he had or hadn’t found behind him.

“Why are you hugging me?” asked John, enveloped in Jack Harkness’s arms.
“Because Sherlock won’t.” Jack grinned over his shoulder at the seething detective.
“John is not the hugging sort,” gritted out Sherlock.
Jack stepped back. “Come on, always room for one more.”
Sherlock looked from Jack, to John (who hadn’t moved), and back to Jack. “Come along, John.”
Shrugging, John turned towards him. “Come on, let’s stay.”
