- in terms of his fighting style, Castiel is designed by heaven to be a killer. His fighting style is brutal, quick, and efficient. Disorient your opponent and kill them as quickly as possible.
- Now, as a being, Castiel is capable of an intense amount of love, and he’s a very complex and layered character, but in a fight, he doesn’t hold back and will use any resources available to him to come out on top. Like, the choreography from this scene – the angel that Castiel is fighting has two swords, and a weaponless Cas manages to overpower his opponent and when he can’t reach his sword, he fucking hurls him out a window. By separating his opponent from both the swords, the other angel knew he didn’t have a chance of taking on Cas and fled the scene, rendering Cas the winner. He’s also used this tactic in 5×01. 5×18 and 6×20 are other fights where he’s able to dispatch his opponents with relative ease.
- However, those were all fights where Castiel had the upper hand to begin with, or fights that were more or less equally matched. Castiel has also been in plenty of conflicts where his odds were not good. Castiel doesn’t particularly fear death; the saying ‘death before dishonor’ is really fitting for him. Even when he doesn’t have the upper hand in a conflict/confrontation, he’s always willing to put himself into the direct line of fire for the causes and people that he cares about. In 7×21, Hester is advancing on Dean and Castiel deliberately steps forward and draws her attention in a 180. We see this sort of behavior again and again – 5×03 and 7×23 being notable examples where Castiel’s chances of coming out of a fight alive are fairly low. In 4×16, his fight with Uriel also has a similar undertones.
- what these types of fight scenes tell me about Cas: doing what he thinks is right is really important to him, even if it means death or injury – it’s everything to him. In these types of fight, Cas is willing to take the hits, if it means protecting the people he cares about, and if it means that his cause has a chance of prevailing over the cause of his enemies.
- tl;dr his fight scenes tell me a lot and I get really emotional about them
