this was never my life#IT WAS YOUR FUCKING LIFE TONY #JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T WANT TO ADMIT IT IT DOESN’T MAKE IT VOID #those are your fucking weapons #you were a war profiteer and it’s your fucking superhero origin story #and the movies NEED TO STOP ACTING LIKE IT WAS NO BIG DEAL #because it was and it is relevant to the world today and i was rooting for you man #i want the tony stark who was legitimately haunted and ignorant of the dealings of his own company #not one who spouts witty one liners and says shit like IT WAS NEVER MY LIFE #what about pietro and wanda’s lives? #and all the people who are not lucky enough to have a voice because those bombs did go off #i need these movies to make tony take some fucking responsibility for his actions #because tony’s entire character in this movie was playing god and saying witty one liners #it’s like rdj was just phoning it in #waiting for his check #and the chance for an actual conversation on the long term effects of trauma and american imperialism were shoved under the rug and ignored #THIS ASPECT OF THE MOVIE ENRAGES ME SO FUCKING MUCH (via atwellling)
^^ THANK YOU.
This is a good example of how Avengers 2 kinda ruined Tony Stark(Not forever but I’m gonna retcon a lot of this movie from my brain when I consider these characters and their personalities and shit.
In Iron Man 3 he’s recovering from undiagnosed PTSD after seeing the damage done to New York, inflicting damage on an alien race, and having his own tower used for said evil. That’s all really fucked up and in a way is like an opposite day version of his origin story. Some aspect of his creation was used against his will to commit mass murder. Before it was used by his will but without understanding the consequences and after his solo films and the first Avengers HE TOTALLY UNDERSTANDS THOSE CONSEQUENCES.
Avengers 2 turned Tony Stark from a fun and interesting character into a walking plot device. I would say 75% of his dialogue and scenes were in some way offensive to me because they were stupid and Tony isn’t a stupid guy. He makes terrible choices based on emotional reasons(Like if the movie had actually played the creation of Vision as I WANT TO SAVE MY FRIEND JARVIS I would have bought the hell out of that…instead we got ‘lets do the exact same thing AGAIN because THIS TIME IT WILL WORK’)
In another scene he beats up the hulk destroying a small city and inflicting mass casualties when he could have tried harder to draw him away or just NOT FIGHT HIM(Imagine how interesting that scene could have been. I imagine it could have gotten really emotional instead of just another set piece full of witticisms and very little feeling)
In this scene shown in the gifset Tony says something appropriately thoughtless to egg on our young misguided super siblings when in the last Avengers and Iron Man 3 he was so able and willing to cop to his horrific past when he wanted to prove a point. But in this he seems to have conveniently forgotten that ability just like the movie forgot he blew up all his robots in some attempt to move on and have a normal life with Pepper. He just has more of them now and in the 15 minutes of lampshading issues Avengers 2 won’t tackle nobody ever mentions the mass removal of Iron Man suits…he just has more of them now with no explanation.
These movies have barely ever touched on this imperialism and colonization aspect of the Iron Man movies and it probably never will but this character used to at least be able to acknowledge his enormous misdeeds and with that there was always the implication of the people he had hurt with his carelessness.
and to cap it off the only emotional explanation we get for any of Tony’s actions in the film is a dream sequence that would have been fine if it had remained silent. The addition of a single line makes it so on the nose it’s painful. A dying Cap gasping with his last breath “You…should…have…done…more.” Well movie….you could have done more.
