Archives: File #00002
Subject: Royal Air Force Greatcoat [World War II era]. Specifically, the one belonging to Torchwood Three’s leader, Captain Jack Harkness.
Classification: Clothing. (Note: Very important clothing. Hence why it’s the second entry in my archives – I.J)
Material: Wool is the standard for RAF coats. However, Jack actually seems… allergic to wool. Strange for a man like him. But it makes it easier to repair when it’s synthetic. (Note: I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some alien tech in it considering how much damage it’s taken and survived. Of course, I do take meticulous care of that coat – I.J)
Features:
- King’s Crown brass buttons. (Note: I’m surprise Jack hasn’t been stopped and interrogated as to why he has the King’s Crown instead of the Queen’s Crown. Especially since he now serves Queen Elizabeth and not King George. But she hasn’t mentioned it. I suppose he really can do what he wants. -I.J.)
- Brass belt buckle
- Rank Insignia – Group Captain rank. Abbreviated as Grp Cpt. (Note: Of course Jack had to go against ranking tradition and just call himself ‘Captain’, which is never done. I suppose Group Captain Jack Harkness just doesn’t have that ring to it. -I.J.)
- Two outer pockets and two inner, lined, pockets
- Viscose lining
Added Information from Ianto Jones:
- It seems when Jack took his name, he took the fashion with him. As he’s done with the name, he’s made the coat his own as well.
- Brass of that caliber takes constant polishing. At least it allows me private time with it.
- I do not have an obsession with it.
- However, I do love that coat. And, I suppose, the man within.
fixedpointcaptain I’m adding you too this, I thought that you’d love it
