Robert Downey Jr. on the politics of Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War (x)
Reblogging this again because it is such an interesting article. I love that we are going to see them together, trying to work through things, Tony trying to help protect Steve and Falcon (ahhh, my heart!) from prosecution…I just…yes, please. I need this.
Iron Man isn’t necessarily the “bad guy,” but he’s definitely the
antagonist. “It didn’t bother me at all,” says Downey. “I’ve always
thought of it in some ways that Tony is the antagonist to himself in his
own story, so this isn’t a problem. This guy understands problems
‘cause he is a problem. And he tends to create problems.” – RDJYou just gotta love RDJ. Sometimes I think he understands the character better than the writers themselves, honestly.
Also, this is a really great article, but if you don’t want to read, here’s what you need to know:
- the actions of the Avengers start to have consequences, Tony’s trying to protect his team/friends, but that doesn’t work unless he compromises
- Cap is shit at compromising
- Tony is insecure and jealous af
- instead of talking, they decide to beat each other up
You know what these guys need? Group therapy, so they can learn how to communicate like proper adults. And a talking stick. And a very, very patient counsellor.
