I’m so thankful that Furiosa was played by a mature woman with actual brawn on her skeleton. It makes a change from the Whedonesque skinny-minnies (Buffy, River, Gamora, etc.) who literally dance their ways through fight scenes.
It’s amazing how action movies are okay with showing women who have power in unrealistic ways (superpowers, waif-fu), but shy away from showing women who are powerful in the ways that women actually can be powerful.
Fury Road, though, shows us bare-knuckle fighters, pacifists willing to be human shields, women on suicide missions (Miss Giddy), tricky women, smart women, skilled women. All with abilities and limitations, all using everything they’ve got to best advantage. Give me more of this please.
