James watched the proceedings quietly. He was always quiet, always watching. And he preferred it that way. Let his brother be the dashing pilot and his sister the talented musician, James would stay in the background. It was better that way
9)a passage from a WIP:
“Oh.” Sherlock’s voice went soft before falling silent.
John fixed his tea before turning around to face him, not even bothering to check for milk. “Oh?”
Sherlock’s eyes were back on his table. “There was someone else.”
“Right. I’m not even going to ask how you knew that she had a boyfriend.” John took his tea and all but threw himself in the chair. “First proper date in two months and she was just using me to make another bloke jealous.”
Sherlock didn’t respond and John didn’t expect him to. At least the tea was making him feel better, though perhaps a stiff drink wouldn’t be out of order.
“John?”
“Yeah, Sherlock?” He took a long sip.
“Why do you continue to date?”
