The one thing I never could understand was the whole walking
around and going back to the Swamp covered in other people’s blood. Is it not procedure to toss all scrubs in the laundry and wash up before leaving the the hospital/surgery?
I always found it odd and a little disturbing
I think perhaps that might be the point. It’s intended to be visually jarring. They’ve been in surgery for so long that they didn’t have the energy to get changed. They’ve done so many ops that they don’t even notice the blood any more. It’s just par for the course, faded into the background. They don’t notice it, because noticing it would mean having to think and how many mutilated bodies they’ve worked through in the past 48-72 hours, and right now that can’t face it. But WE notice it.
Exactly. They are too tired to deal with it.
Well put Piercintyre.
The whole ethos of M*A*S*H is to call attention to the brutalities of war, and the reality of it. Hawk and Beej have been through so much and have seen so much that they just don’t notice the blood or see it but don’t care.
