he still has the worn-down nubs of the colored pencils bucky got him one christmas (having to work extra hours, and don’t think steve didn’t notice that) and thinks of all the times he tried to draw things in changing color as the sun shifted and just
wonders how badly he got it wrong when he drew things for bucky
the payne’s grey was always his favorite and that one does still look much the same and he takes it with him when he ships out with the uso instead of the army and later, much later, so much later he comes to wonder if that is still somewhere in the archives, if that tiny nub of colored pencil, ancient now, is still around
