liberace sports his famous ring collection, circa 1970 (www.incolors.club)
I DIG Liberace, I really do.
Not the campy over the top part, although the kitschy part is awesome, don’t get me wrong.
He lived in a time when, if a gay man became the object of OVERWHELMING, yet oblivious female adoration, coming out was unthinkable. Yet he STILL made it work.
He was the most ‘hide in plain sight’ gay entertainer ever, as well as being a really VERY skilled pianist who genuinely believed in putting on a great show for people.Women responded to him because he was NICE and and an engaging entertainer and didn’t make female fans feel threatened or alienated.
If his adoring fans ensured he got his tv specials and sold out shows even though his homosexuality was the worst-kept industry secret ever, so be it.
Those mink capes and rings don’t pay for themselves!
