This photo is the sole reason we went to NCComicCon on Saturday and left me tell you how worth it this was. We only had seconds with him, just enough time to pose and snap a photo, but he made those seconds worth the money we spent for them. After standing in line for about an hour total, he ushered us into the photo booth like a Fairy Gay Mother scooping us off to the ball. As he pulled us in I said, “we want to touch your butt.” His eyes lit up at the prospect of something naught and swung my partner garmafashion around to in front of him while he popped his butt in my direction. And snap the picture was taken and we had to move along. As I walked away I called back that he means so much to me and it was over. But look at that smile, I’m the cat that ate the canary. And I could not admire a better man. His love for his fanbase is pure and true. When he announces to a panel room that he loves each and everyone of us he means it. This is why I know it to be true:
Friday night after wrapping the weeks filming on Arrow, Barrowman jumped onto a series of planes, flying through the night to North Carolina. His plane was late thus setting his schedule back and making him late for his Q&A session. Instead of settling into the hotel and then joining his fans he comes straight from the airport, suitcases still in hand, no contacts, plane rumpled clothes, and jet lagged. We had him for an hour of Q&A in which he was joyous, flirtly, and energetic.
He doesn’t like to answer favorite questions for fear of getting tied to one thing but when a four year old girl asked his favorite color he answered her right out. When the last question came from a hearing impaired audience member not only did he ensure that she could clearly read his lips, but also took a moment to ask her how the captions were on the Torchwood and Doctor Who DVDs.
Much later in the day as he was leaving for a break I waved at him from a distance. He waved back with some glee. It was a great end to a great experience.
