Torchwood episode: an alien race has been putting subliminal messages in the random-seeming pattern of cubicle wall fabric, causing people to spiral into apathy and depression while also prepping them to form an army with a code word. Gwen and Tosh have to take a temp job to figure out what’s going on and get their asses saved from cubicle depression by a pre-mindwipe Donna, who’s looking for the Doctor. They proceed to be badasses together, Torchwood fights their way out of the building, and sneaks into the place making the fabric.
Find out that the messages were only intended to make people pliant, but cubicle jobs already suck so bad that things got out of hand.
Donna convinces aliens that cubicle workers are the worst of our species and a bad candidate for militia recruitment, citing all the pasty pale, flabby, maladjusted cubie-land stereotypes. Distracts them long enough for Jack & Co. to destroy all their equipment. They’re kind of a halfass species (come on, mind power with cubicle walls?) So they escape in their stapler-shaped pod and never come back.
Tosh rounds on Donna about the stereotypes. Donna’s like, of course that was horseshit, but you think I was gonna tell THEM that brilliant people like you are slogging unappreciated every day in cubies all over the world?
And then Jack finds out – AFTER they’ve retconned her coffee – that she met the Doctor recently. And she falls asleep while he’s frantically trying to get information out of her.
