rose-tylers-daughter:

This is one of my favorite Doctor Who hugs. Know why? Because of how different it is. When the Doctor hugs he wraps himself around a person, all arms and folding a person into his embrace. Its a sign of protection, of caring, and it makes the other person feel safe. When the Doctor hugs its out of joy, apology, sorrow, protection, or comfort, but always for the other person.

Look at this hug. Instead of wrapping himself around Rose like we’re so used to seeing, he’s curled up, like he’s trying to hide himself in her. This is the hug you see a frighten child give to someone big and strong who can protect them. This is the Doctor who just faced his worst enemies: A born and bred killer, and himself, the killer he had become. He just faced his darkest demons and in this moment he doesn’t know if he’s won, he just knows he’s broken, and afraid, and can’t be strong anymore. And he knows he needs Rose. Nine wanted Rose with him from the start, but it is at this point that he realizes how much he needs her. She makes him whole again, she makes him feel loved. Rose Tyler makes the man who saved words feel safe. And that’s what this hug is. Him needing Rose to protect him, and comfort him, and save him once again. He almost lost her, and he almost lost himself, and he needs her.

That’s why this is one of my favorite hugs.
