John Mulaney, a true ADHD icon
I love how he gave this bit at an autism benefit because it is also a heavy Autism Mood™
This is the most relatable thing I’ve ever seen.
Omg
adhd is just every area of your life telling you to get your shit together. like, that’s basically the disorder in a nutshell
Honestly, the weirdest adhd feel is zoning out while you’re talking because when you come back, you’re still talking and the other person is still listening, but you have no fucking idea what you said while on autopilot.
Trying a different ADHD med cause i feel like the adderrall isn’t doing much. Starting that in the morning.
It’s frustrating sometimes to realize i’m a pretty obvious case of ADHD, and yet nobody really noticed until I was in my mid 30s. I try to focus on the future, on taking the tools I’m gaining to build a better me, but there’s always gonna be part of me that will wonder.
Still, i’m gonna be 40 in 5 months, here’s hoping my 40s are an amazing time for me, and concerns about lost time will be obliterated.
ADHD culture is not realizing that what your experiencing is very fucking normal
And even people without adhd also suffer through it
dumbass culture is boiling ADHD down to something “everyone does”. asshole culture is getting mad at people with ADHD for making posts about their condition and how it affects them, for talking about how they legitimately ‘suffer’ because of these symptoms, unlike, you know, non-ADHDers.
ding dong, ADHD symptoms to the degree that they appear in the individual are not considered “normal” which is why they’re considered symptoms and the condition itself is classified as a disorder in the first place. don’t get mad because your silly little ass also experiences some of it sometimes and let people talk about their struggles without you getting butthurt.
adhd culture is struggling every fucking day and hiding it because you’re supposed to be normal, and thinking everyone else is doing the same, all because of people like op who say it’s nothing.
adhd culture is LITERALLY hearing “yeah i have that too” everyday and having your issues and problems and pain pushed away because it’s not a thing for others. it’s not realizing you had adhd and when you finally start researching, your entire life suddenly makes sense— thinking you suck at life and hurt yourself because you can’t even do something in a normal sense.
it’s about the degree and amount of the issues.
you lose your keys? of course. you lose your keys every day consistently, know where they must be and want to put them there but can’t, every day?
you dislike criticism? of course. you get self hate attacks from nice formulated constructed criticism, don’t go to classes or places bc you can’t handle criticism, didn’t go to uni for a year because of it, won’t do art school because the idea of rejection will give you a panic attack just at the thought of it?
you can’t concentrate? of course. you can’t concentrate on something you love, two seconds maybe, a minute, meanwhile you thought of 7 other things to do, started three other projects, forgot what you started 10 minutes ago, every single time you do something. literally. every. single. time.
you can’t focus on a thing you find boring? of course. you try your hardest to focus on something you find boring because you want to do well and understand and you force yourself to do it, but whatever you just read is an entire hazy mess, whatever you try, it won’t come into your brain?
i could go on forever. it’s about the amount, the intensity, the way it impacts and heavily influences your daily life in a negative way.
if you think you know what it’s like, you don’t. if you don’t have adhd, you don’t think it’s a problem, because guess what, it’s not a fucking problem for you.
Also, they spelled “you’re” wrong.
