A reason to comment.

The best reason to comment (nicely) on any fic if you enjoyed it is that you have no idea what power you hold. Make that comment, spend the time, it’s not a waste.

I received the best set of comments on my fic Evening Out The Odds recently. Had a shit day, not life-threateningly so, but the kind of day we all have when we’d rather just go home and cry in a corner with a cat on your knee while consuming a bucket of ice cream. (I hope that was grammatically correct and did not conjure up the image of a crying cat eating icecream while sitting on a person’s knee…) but I digress…

Anyway, I had one of those days and I received the best set of comments ever. Soooo kind, so appreciative, so long too, very in depth concerning my writing style, what the reader enjoyed about it, etc. I don’t know if the commenter is a Tumblr user, but on AO3 they go by the name of League of Redheaded Fangirls. If you know them, please pass this on. If I already know you on here, please tell me who you are.

You made my day. And that’s my point. Comments have power. Comments can sweep away doubt. Comments can gift amazing feelings. So be careful when you comment. Choose your words wisely. Be aware that the smallest words of praise to you may have a huge impact on the recipient. With great power comes great responsibility. Comment with care, but please, take the time to do so and never think it isn’t appreciated. Thank you, Redheaded Fangirl, whoever you are. Much appreciated.

I second this very much. I’ve had some comments out of the blue that have touched my soul and given me strength, comments that help motivate me to keep going, that remind me I’m not alone, and regular commenters that encourage me to keep posting chapters and feel like I’m doing something that matters.
