I feel like coming into Doctor Who, it was a given that Peter Capaldi is known as an amazing actor who was going to deliver amazing performances as the Doctor, and he didn’t disappoint.

I feel like, at least for me, Matt‘s acting ability was unknown coming to the show, so it was a very nice surprise for me that he turned out to be a great actor from the beginning but ended up maturing and developing in the role as seasons went on to become a truly exceptional actor. (And not just as the Doctor, he got an Emmy nomination for the Crown, which he deserved to win, in my opinion).

I’d seen Jodie in Broadchurch and knew she was a good actress, but of course the role of the Doctor is a unique one, so you never know. Almost immediately in the first episode, she proved that her acting as the Doctor was already amazing and it’s only the beginning.

That’s not to leave out David. David’s acting ability, passion, and energy he put into the Doctor literally made the Tenth Doctor’s character. I believe David is why so many people love Ten. On his own and on paper, Ten had some flaws, and without David bringing a certain charisma and charm and lovable elements to the character, he may not have been so-well loved if handled by another actor.

In my opinion, Christopher Eccleston is like Peter, in that way that he’s one of those already masterful actors who was obviously going to deliver exceptional performances as the Doctor, and he did.
