euclase:

One of my followers asked me what my favorite movies are and if I’d drawn any portraits from them. Here are a few! Blade Runner, Ladyhawke, Pitch Black, The Last Starfighter, Labyrinth, The Crow, Willow, Firestarter, The Terminator, and Poltergeist. Hello I come from the 80s.

I would also include: The Neverending Story and Wings of Desire, which I haven’t drawn. And animated movies Akira, Gandahar, and Spirited Away. <3

I know that artists can get inspiration from anywhere, and you probably have a long list of sources of inspiration. From where you are now, can you look back and see any specific artists or pieces that you didn’t realize at the time would end up having such a big impact on you?

:

Heeyyyyy nice.

There’s a magazine from the 80s called Step-by-Step Graphics. I don’t even know if it’s published anymore. But they were old school process shots, basically. So instead of Photoshop, you’d have colored pencils and acetate, and I still have a shelf of them that I use for ideas and inspiration.

Anyway, I would study these for hours when I was a kid. And there was one issue that featured Marvin Mattelson’s art on the cover from 1988:

And here are some inside shots from my copy:

You can see all the basic methods used in realistic illustration—getting references, making thumbnails, building a palette, setting down the groundwork—all pretty much what I do now.

When I started doing my own realism, I didn’t consciously think, “Oh hey I want to make art just like Mr. Mattelson did in that magazine from when I was eight years old.” But stuff like this was a bigger influence than a Caravaggio or whatever because it was permission to do art practically, you know? Museum art is inspiring obv, but this kind of stuff brought it to my level. Like yeah it’s not magic. It’s a process, and it can be done.

Awesome question thank you sorry it took so long for me to reply. <3

The Supernatural fandom has lost one of their greatest treasures due to anon hate. This sort of thing has GOT TO STOP. If you don’t have anything constructive, supportive and loving to say… or you have to hide behind and Anon to say it… DON’T.

Oh, this is heartbreaking!!! I was just looking through euclases’ work last week! Not only has the Supernatural fandom lost a brilliant, intuitive artist, but every fandom and the art community as a whole!

I mean, LOOK:

This is completely infuriating and inexcusable and the results are so tragic!!! If someone has the courage and maturity to say something as themselves and be accountable for their words, rather than hiding behind anon, fine. Otherwise, keep it to yourselves and let the rest of us be happy!

This (along with art theft)  is precisely why I’ve disabled anon qs and never post my own artwork. Artists of every discipline should be feel safe enough to share their work without this kind of abuse and hatred! Please, please, please just STOP THIS!!!

The fucking jealousy game ridiculous .

It’s all jealousy. All of it. Work fucking hard, get fucking good, and quit hating on people who have busted their fucking ass.

When even Orlando fucking Jones is commenting on this anon hate thing and driving Euclase away…
