out of curiosity though

how do other people deal with jack’s moment of transphobia in greek’s bearing gifts?

like do most people not even really notice it at all? have you figured out a way to explain it away? do you think it makes any kind of sense for jack’s character? what does the fandom actually think about this?

also, for everyone who’s been in the fandom way longer than me, has john barrowman ever addressed this moment? has anyone ever confronted him with it and asked him his thoughts on it?

I suppose that they did that just ‘‘for the laughs’‘ / didn’t actually mean all that much by it.

Somehow, that only makes it worse :/

(though no, I have no idea whatsoever whether john ever addressed that. anybody else??)

I don’t remember a scene where Jack is transphobic. Can someone tell me which scene it is?  I feel like I’ve missed something here.

It’s towards the end of Greek Bearing Gifts, where Jack… let’s just say ‘‘joked’‘ about being ‘‘suspicious whenever a friend starts behaving out of character’‘ ever since a friend of his, named Victor apparently, behaved strangely for a while, went away for a couple of days or smth and when he came back, wanted to be called Vanessa (you can imagine the rest I guess).

It’s a pretty terrible  moment I tend to forget until I watch the episode or someone talks about it. I know Barrowman has said some problematic things in the past himself. I’m sure the thought was it was for the laughs, but it’s a really ugly moment, and to me it feels out of character:

JACK: Friend of mine. Let’s call him Vincent, that was his name after all. Regular guy, girlfriend, likes his sport, likes a beer. He starts acting a little strange, a little distracted. Suddenly he disappears for a couple of months. He comes back, and we’ve got to start calling him Vanessa. Since then I’ve always been a little nervous when a friend behaves out of character. I’m sorry, we haven’t been introduced. Jack Harkness. My guess is you’re not from around these parts.
