media depictions of the Token Gay Friend who is only friends w/ straight ppl even tho they live somewhere w/ plenty of opportunity to meet other lgbt+ ppl are really weird bc in actuality for most of us given the chance our friend groups typically turn out more like a half dozen fellow queers & one straight girl named catherine who’s a really good sport
#mer is our Catherine (via tiger-in-the-flightdeck)
Tiger I’ll have you know I showed this to another group of friends and they’ve all agreed and decided I should be called Catherine from now on.
Could you provide me with some clarification, please? Someone is claiming that Holmes visited female prostitutes for his sexual needs in the original canon. Thats incorrect right? Unless I missed that in the books. but I’m pretty sure he never did that.
Tiger’s response today is brought to you by the letter W, for what the fuck?
You didn’t miss anything in the books, don’t worry. He doesn’t visit female prostitutes for his sexual needs.
That sounds like the kind of shitty, slap dash deductions that come from the Baker Street Irregulars. The people that claim that Holmes was in love with Trevor’s little sister, and that she married a couple days before they were supposed to get married. Despite having never, you know, met Trevor’s sister before she died…
Basically, any sort of deduction or meta that involves talking about Holmes sleeping with females of any profession end with me rolling my eyes so hard that I swear I can see the back of my orbital sockets.
It’s one thing to make inferences about the things that aren’t said. It’s something else entirely to completely ignore the things that are. “It’s written that he’s not in love with her? Oh, well, let’s ignore that!”
On more than one occasion, it’s stated that Holmes is not interested in women. Either through the narrative, or Holmes’ own words. Whether that means he’s homosexual, or asexual, it’s plain and simple that the fair sex is not his department. He may as well have No Gurlz Alloud tacked up on a sign on their door.
The man spends a good deal of time with his best friend in Turkish bath houses. I think it’s fairly safe to say that if he had to take care of his sexual needs, they would be well in hand.
I love that screen adaptations always have that shot of Watson looking at Holmes with rapt adoration.
Then there’s Paget’s Watson…
Not so much ‘rapt adoration’ as ‘I’m just letting him rest before round three.’
