17% of cardiac surgeons are women, 17% of tenured professors are women. It just goes on and on. And isn’t that strange that that’s also the percentage of women in crowd scenes in movies? What if we’re actually training people to see that ratio as normal so that when you’re an adult, you don’t notice?
…We just heard a fascinating and disturbing study where they looked at the ratio of men and women in groups. And they found that if there’s 17% women, the men in the group think it’s 50-50. And if there’s 33% women, the men perceive that as there being more women in the room than men.
My head canon has been that the equerry in asib is Mycroft’s boyfriend as they are dressed alike. Thinking about him instead as a possible date for John works too, as they are emphasizing his similarity to Mycroft. And Mycroft is clean-shaven (hence gay) in tab, therefore the equerry is gay.
This changes the palace scene from male gaze, isn’t lesbian sex exciting, put down your teacup John – to discretion is necessary, you understand why the princess may want to remain closeted, queer solidarity.
Freudian Fandom: Our daddy vs Our son
I’ve been thinking that it’s really interesting that, at least in the Sherlock fandom, there are two aesthetics of how we, broadly speaking, relate to Benedict Cumberbatch vs Martin Freeman.
Now, I know not all of us think of things this way, but the concept is out there; the idea of these actors as, ‘daddy’, and, ‘son’. The thing I find fascinating is that each fandom (if we were to pretend they’re discrete groups) has an aesthetic that seems to follow from the relationship it implies between the actors and the fans.
First of all, thank you for trans!sherlock. Secondly, what if ‘the other one’ mycroft was talking about is always sherlock? Like, there is this photo from when they were children going around and myc is so mysterious. So people started making up stories like the one where he had a sister and he killed her bc she reveled the wrong information to the wrong people. And myc knows but never said anything about that. So he used the rumors to protect his brother and he is a badass. Luv your art bie
