do you ever hear the intro theme to a video game and you get really emotional and your heart feels really weak like it’s coming back home and it’s basically like that whole world you love so much summed up into one epic song and you just want to fucking cry a lot because this is the video game for you and nothing else ever can even compare to the feeling you get when you hear that one fucking bit of music
technology related sensory memories from my childhood
- sliding the metal cover on floppy disks
- the slight resistance of inserting cassette and video tapes
- ripping off the strips of holed paper off of dot matrix printer paper
- rolling the wheel on a disposable camera to take another photo
- The “warp speed” sound of a VCR rewinding a VHS tape.
- The sound of all the static electricity discharging off the screen when you turned off your CRT monitor or TV after it’s been on for a long time.
- Modem handshake.
- The “tick-tick-tick CLICK” sound of a rotary phone’s dial returning to home after you input a number.
concept: you, when you were a young child, sitting on the linoleum kitchen floor of your old house. Your mother stands at the stove, stirring something. The now-subtly-obsolete designs of the spice tins and cereal boxes look familiar and safe. A TV show you’d forgotten all about is on quietly in the next room. It’s October and the weather is cooling off. There is a vague sense of fun coming in the near future. You have no responsibilities.
