Could you please point out some of the major parallels? I’ve never seen Casablanca (I know!) and googling isn’t giving me what I want.
in casablanca humphrey bogart’s character is in love with ingrid bergman’s character, they get separated for a long time and in each other’s absence ingrid falls in love with somebody else. they reconnect after a long while, and discover they both still have feelings for each other—and humphrey is still madly in love with her—though she is with another man. it’s during world war ii so they’re trying to leave casablanca and get to america so they can be free, especially because ingrid’s new man is in deep shit and asbolutely has to escape, and humphrey does a bunch of illegal stuff for them and ultimately he sends the the love of his life and her new lover on the plane to fly off to freedom and be together—he sacrifices his own love and freedom for hers
sherlock did the exact fucking thing except the meaning of the plane changed so that bit was switched, but the motives are all 100% identical and it absolutely was intentional, you don’t accidentally end your episode the exact way casablanca ended. they intentionally paralleled johnlock to the most famous romance in cinema
Well, “As Time Goes By” does make a nice theme song for the fandom.
AH! I totally got the Casablanca vibes. I was going to blog about it and then I thought, nah. Someone else will do it. So yay.
as above, so below.
