What to do if You Don’t Like an Author’s Fanfic or Take on a Trope:
- Stop reading.
- Find another fanfic that is more suitable to your tastes.
- Read that one instead.
Bonus tip If you’re considering sending the author unsolicited messages about how much you disliked their fic, consider one of the following options instead:
- Don’t.
- Get a life.
if you think that the author really needs to hear your opinion, consider this:
- did they ask for constructive criticism
- if yes, look up the definition of constructive criticism before sending negative feedback
- if no, abort mission, repeat, abort mission
sometimes i wonder if we will ever get another spn episode as willing to tilt our audience perspectives, as the man who would be king. we are so used to seeing the world through the filter of the winchesters. even when we question their individual choices- did that one have to die, did that one- and sometimes their human-centric worldview, it’s rare that the show makes an explicit point of pulling the curtain aside to say, but what about this. what about all this, all that exists outside and beyond the winchesters, and was there before, and may be there after.
i understand that for dean and sam, cas is a guy. a good guy who has made tough choices and mistakes, but still keeps on fightin’ the fight. that is understandable, kind of. (at this point, you could argue that the writers should have far expanded dean and sam’s consciousness- for a show that deals with actual gods and demons, there’s very little metaphysics, as if they believe we, or the winchesters, just couldn’t handle it. they still respond to the supernatural in essentially the same way they did a decade ago, when they were still barely adults who had never yet met an angel, a goddess, a gentle vampire.) but castiel is not a guy. or not just a guy. he is a person, certainly. but he is also an immortal wave of light. castiel is essentially an alien, but everyone expects him to act like a human, to think like a human, to value what humans value, to make the choice a human would. sure, he’s been human, briefly, but becoming human is a very different journey than being human.
i don’t know what exactly i want for castiel- happiness on earth, happiness in heaven, happiness in between, love, friendship, humanity, divinity- i’m not sure, i change my mind all the time. but i know i want him to choose for himself. and no more choices presented as ultimatums- us or them. human or inhuman, other. i want a world where he can be as much, or as little, as he wants to be. a world where he’s valued for all that he is, in all his difference.
Fan fiction reviews
Imagine you have a coworker who likes to bake. Every week, they bring in a batch of delicious, homemade cookies and leave them in the break room. Next to the plate of cookies is a sign, “If you like my cookies, could you please just leave me a note and tell me what you like about them? The more feedback you leave about what you like, the more incentive I have to bake.” A hundred coworkers walk by and take a cookie. One person leaves a note. “Great cookies! Bake some more soon!”
The next week, once again there are cookies in the break room with the same sign. Once again a hundred people take a cookie and only one person leaves a note. “Nice! More soon!”
Week Three- Once again, a hundred people take a cookie. No one leaves a note.
Week Four- One hundred people take a cookie. No note.
Week Five- There are no cookies. Someone leaves a note. “Where are the cookies? I loved them. Please, please bake some cookies.”
Week Six- There are no cookies. Ten people leave notes. “I miss your cookies. They were my favorites. I loved the chocolate chips. My friend really liked the way you had almonds in the cranberry ones.”
Week Seven- Motivated by the wonderful notes, the baking coworker stays up late to bake the best batch of cookies they have ever made. That week, a hundred people take a cookie. No one leaves a note.
The co-worker gives up baking for their colleagues.

Please, if you like the fan fiction that you are reading, let your authors know. Stories are abandoned for a myriad of reasons, but it is very, very hard to stay motivated when you receive no positive feedback. If there is a story that you like, whether it is a completed one or a work in progress, please leave an up-lifting comment or review. By doing so, you’re providing that writer with motivation to spend their time and energy creating more stories for you.
And that way, you both win!
This is the best post I’ve ever seen on this.
And if you’re ever encouraged to leave a note like:
- You should have used dark chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate.
- Why would you make oatmeal when it’s obvious they should be sugar cookies?
- You forgot the icing. Where are the decorations?
- The cookies were good, but the presentation was awful. Nobody eats off paper plates anymore.
- WTF? I HATE COOKIES. U SUCK.
- and so on…
Don’t.

Help us Beat a Double Whammy Job Loss
Help us Beat a Double Whammy Job Loss
Two weeks ago I lost my job. I’ve been able to start some freelance work, but was relying on my husband’s job for insurance and to pay the rent. Today he walked in the door and told me he was fired.
While I’m of course hopeful that we can both find work again soon, we’re concerned with being able to make rent at the end of this month. Anything beyond that would go to other bills and utilities.
Guys I hate to do it, but I’m freaking out right now about being able to pay rent at the end of the month. Anything would be appreciated.
1500 follower giveaway
I don’t know how I got here. I am not this cool in real life!
However, in honor of hitting 1500 followers I wanted to do a giveaway of some sort.
So I’m going with my bread and butter, which is fanfic. (I’m Janto321 if anyone doesn’t know)
Like, reblog, whatever. If this gets less then 50 notes I’ll pick one winner, up to 100, 2 winners, over that 3.
Winner(s) will get a 1500 or so word fanfic on a pairing of their choice (provided it’s not on the notp list). Ya’ll know me. I’ll write just about anyone with anyone and nearly anything. I’ll be happy to negotiate with the winner(s). And we’ll let this run until… March 1. I have a week off school then which should be plenty of time to fic. Must be following of course!
The Ant Man movies starts. Ant Man is tiny. He is on screen for five seconds. Natasha steps on Ant Man. The camera pans up to Black Widow, ready for battle. It was a Black Widow movie all along.
