[TW: rape culture] “The louder they scream, the more we know we are getting something done.“

Governor Rick Perry on women protesting anti-choice legislation after shaming Senator Wendy Davis for being a teenage mother.

Pay close attention, everyone. Rick Perry is saying, right here, that the conservative anti-choice movement should be proud of the fact that they have forced women’s rights activists to scream in order to be heard by old, White men trying to take control of our bodies.

This is rape culture. How can we expect to live in a society where women are safe when a powerful elected official of one of the largest states in the country not only pushes legislation aimed at stripping away women’s rights over our own bodies but also publicly tells his supporters they should be celebrating how much this hurts women?

We live in a country where 1 in 4 women are sexual assault survivors. Political speeches should not need to come with trigger warnings and politicians should not be encouraging/protecting rapists by giving directives that we should ignore women’s screams and protests when it comes to control over our bodies.

This is such BS.
