I was thinking of a comparison between bucky and sam. In the Winter Soldier, Sam said he would help ‘Captain America’ (Captain America needs my help. There’s no better reason…).
Rewind to The First Avenger. Bucky said he wasn’t ready to follow Captain America. He was going to follow Steve Rogers.
I think this says a bit about how they each saw Steve. There’s no doubt in my mind that both consider him a good friend (setting aside ships and the like), but Bucky didn’t really know this ‘Captain America’ person. There was no way he could follow someone he didn’t know back into the horror that he’d somehow managed to escape from.
Conversely, Sam knew who Captain America was, but he’d only just met this person called ‘Steve Rogers’.
Maybe I’m just reading too much into this, but it’s an interesting contrast.
don’t even front, sam wilson would be the BEST superhero because he would FUCKING LOVE IT
none of that batman existential angst shit, none of that peter parker weepy with great power
sam wilson LIVES to be a superhero. he could have a well-adjusted, perfectly fulfilling life doing anything else, but he puts on the wings, and the mask, and the tight costume (he LOVES the tight costume, he doesn’t do 500 crunches in the morning NOT to show it off) because he wants to help people and this is the best way he knows how and it’s AWESOME
sam wilson probably collects his own action figures, and gets SO EXCITED when fans recognize him, especially little black and poc children who look at him with wide eyes and sam gets a little torn up but tries not to show it because it’s bigger than him, it’s always been bigger than him
