Hello! If you have some spare time please: Write ten things about yourself and pass this on to ten of your favorite followers xoxo cinco

Since I got tagged twice, I’ll do this. Even though I’ve done this like 4 times now, lol (You can search my tags for ten things).

  1. Before earlier this year the last time I wrote fanfiction was as a teenager, so um, like 1995?
  2. That was Star Trek fic, but up until I discovered Jack Harkness I’d never shipped anyone. So you can all blame him.
  3. My favorite Star Trek characters were Chekov and Sulu and I always wanted more stories about them. So I wrote them.
  4. My dad was kind and took me a Star Trek convention as a teenager. George Takei was and is hilarous.
  5. My parents took us to a Doctor Who convention in like 1986. Mom pinned celery to me and my brother’s shirts. She knitted the scarf and wore it. The thing I remember most about it was a K9 that moved on it’s own.
  6. Despite my parents being massive Whovians, I was still kinda shocked they watched Torchwood and liked it.
  7. My parents used to (and still might) have boxes and boxes of classic doctor who on VHS (or you know, doctor who, it wasn’t classic then).
  8. My mom told me she was genuinely upset when Tom Baker left and Peter Davidson took over, but she grew to like him.
  9. My mom also used to own a coffee and candy and shop for a bit, and she sold jelly babies that came in a tardis shaped box. I wish I still had one.
  10. I’ve been craving jelly babies for months, but when I tried to order some on Amazon, my order got lost and so I never got them 🙁

I’m calling this the Navy edition because it’s on my mind:

1)I was a Fire Controlman in the Navy and worked on the Close-In-Weapon System, aka CIWS

image
Uh, yes, my gun is/was kinda phallic, what?

2)I joined the Navy because it was 1997 as it was the only way I could be in any kind of combat position as a female(things have changed since then and yes, I always wanted to be a bamf)

3)I originally wanted to be a Tomahawk Technician, but couldn’t because it was an offensive weapon and I’m female. (How dumb is that?)

4)When I originally enlisted, it was as a Sonar Tech, but I didn’t want to wait until October to go to boot camp. They had an opening in early September for AECF (Advanced Electronics Computer Field, which meant I could have been either an Electronics Technician or Firecontrolman), so I grabbed it.

5)Because I got a last minute slot, I had about 5 hours from when my recruiter called until I had to be at processing. So that was 5 hours to say goodbye to everyone and everything in my old life. And that included the hour or so drive to Seattle.

6)When I enlisted we found out my parents had been using the wrong social security number for me for the previous eighteen years. Whoops.

7)I basically have 2 years of advanced Navy electronics training I’ve never managed to get a job using. It’s been a long time, but I do remember a lot of it and can read electronics schematics.

8)I got out early due to bad knees and never travelled further then Chesapeake Bay

9)I was on the USS Radford:

Yes, it looks like a giant middle finger, it’s actually an advanced sonar system and the only ship they ever stuck that on. I was on it for 4 months, but it was in drydock most of that time due to being hit by a freighter a few months earlier. A good friend of mine got stationed on the Enterprise; I was kinda jealous.

10)One of the proudest moments of my life was graduating boot camp and sometimes I still miss being in, even all these years later.

My terrible boot camp picture: I know, I look like a boy.

Oh god, I did this twice already. Um….sure, it’s late at night, I can come up with something

  1. Cheating here. I published a book, it’s the first one in a series. You should go buy it.
  2. One of my trips to Hawaii I took a surfing lesson. It was AWESOME and I wanna do it again.
  3. When I was in High School I used to do a ski school for most of the winter.
  4. In that same ski school I always ran into the same girl every year, from a different school, without fail. I wonder what happened to her?
  5. I had a dog growing up. The only time she ever had puppies it was on my waterbed. When my parents were gone and we were being babysat. I got to tell the babysitter.
  6. Thanks to hubby, I once accidentally returned an ‘adult’ DVD to the library instead of the proper one. They caught it before I left though.
  7. My favorite book is probably Ender’s Game. It’s different every time I read it. Orson Scott Card is still a dick though.
  8. My second favorite book is Canticle for Leiobwitz
  9. I’ve always wanted to learn Russian and French. I’m taking Spanish though.
  10. And I can’t pick one movie as my favorite.

I’m not gonna tag anyone this time, so if you wanna, have at it.

See, awabubbles, I’m doing this TWICE You can do it once. Ahem.

  1. I only finished catching up on new Who in like, April, thanks to my Awesome Roommate. Who is also the one that got me to start watching Supernatural.
  2. Um, thanks to tumblr I have a tendency to start shipping things before I even watch the show. Hence falling for Janto before ever watching Torchwood, and  now I’m getting into Destiel despite only being on season 2.
  3. I have an lj account I started a couple of months ago with some badly written smut. If you really want to read it, ask, but it’s not very good. (why am I admitting this?)
  4. I did Nanowrimo for several years, but haven’t in about five, though I still think about it, and it’s part of my writing DNA.
  5. I was the co-ML for Nanowrimo St Louis for a couple of years.
  6. I remember seeing Halley’s Comet in 1986.
  7. I wrote my first story when I was 5 or 6, but unfortunately lost everything I wrote before I graduated high school when I left home. Pretty sure it got thrown away accidentally.
  8. My brother is 3 years younger then me and a lawyer. This may be another reason I identify with Dean; I tend to feel like my little brother is the smart/successful one.
  9. Up until they moved to Hawaii, my mom had a spider plant that I grew from a seed in preschool. She had that thing more then twenty years.
  10. I married my husband 2 months after we met. That was fifteen years ago.

Woo, I never get tagged in these things. Now I have to come up with things. Oh well, here goes…

  1. If we were playing the Kevin Bacon game I’d get one degree from Wil Wheaton because I did some playtesting for Steve Jackson Games and I sort of know his editor, Andrew.
  2. If you happen to have Munchkin Zombies, I’m listed in the credits as a playtester (and hubby is too). Also because of this I’ve played Munchkin with Steve Jackson himself and seen the gazebo.
  3. I’m second generation Whovian. My parents got into it in the 70s and used have a crapton of VHS tapes. My mom knitted the scarf and we went to a con in the 80s, which was my first ever con.
  4. My first fandom was Star Trek, when I was a teen. I was way into Star Trek for most of those years, once called someone a Denebian Slime devil as an insult, and generally preferred the original series, but watched all of it.
  5. When I was fourteen we went to Hawaii on vacation and so I’ve flown over Kilauea in a small plane…and it was AWESOME.
  6. My dad flies small planes (see above) and is an airplane mechanic. When I was a teenager I took glider lessons, but never got my license. (on the bucket list though)
  7. When I was little I wanted to be an astronaut…that kinda died when Challenger exploded (I was 7) but I’ve never lost my love for all things space related.
  8. A couple years ago hubby and I went on vacation to Florida and he let me drag him on the NASA history tour at Cape Canaveral. He dropped and broke my camera at the Apollo 1 launchpad.
  9. Having an airplane loving dad, I’ve been to Oshkosh more then a few times and I got to see the Concord fly and walk around inside it.
  10. I was in the Navy, and while I sadly was never assigned to the Enterprise, I had a friend who was.

Now sadly, I can’t tag Jazz or Awabubbles on this.
