A suggestion/prompt for those of you who read fanfiction:

At some point in the next week, go back through your bookmarks on AO3.

If there’s a fic in your bookmarks you haven’t given kudos to, give it kudos.

If you tend not to comment on fics and just bookmark instead, go back through your bookmarks this time and comment on every other fic, or every two fics, or every fic, or just your favorites.

Fanfiction writers thrive on feedback, and when you kudos their work, it makes them want to write more. But when you comment on their work and show them that people are actively engaging in what they write, that tends to give a much stronger and more immediate burst of energy and inspiration.

Comment on the fanfiction you love. Comment on the pieces you find yourself reading over and over again. Comment on the pieces you’ve read once or twice but still bookmarked. Encourage the people whose stories you thought were good enough to save. Encourage writers, give feedback, comments, kudos! It’s a serious inspiration and energy and confidence boost when you check your email and see kudos and comments on stories you’ve written.

This works for your subscriptions as well! No matter what fandom you’re in, at some point this week, go and comment on a few fics in your bookmarks. Encourage the writers whose talents you enjoy!

(Please reblog to spread this.)

oh my GOD i’m gonna leave CHRISTMAS COMMENTS on fics!! i’m gonna leave comments on fics!

I’m going to do a much better job at this. You’d think I’d be better, knowing how much it means to me to get kudos and comments, but I generally suck at it. I RESOLVE TO LEAVE MORE COMMENTS.
