It’s International Women’s Day. And I’d just like to take a moment to commemorate those Old Hollywood actresses, who put up with a lot of crap from the studio heads.
The ones who felt oppressed and unable to fight back.
The ones who did fight back, and who won.
The ones who got abandoned by the studios.
The ones who got paid $750 a week, when they were the biggest stars in the studio.
The ones who got paid less than male extras in their films.
The ones who were forced into doing many movies they didn’t want to do.
EVERY ACTRESS IN HOLLYWOOD! EVERY SINGLE ONE SHOULD BE REMEMBERED TODAY FOR HER STRENGTH.
The ones who weren’t able to be the stars they were born to be
The ones who were more often than not uncredited
The ones who had to sit at segregated tables while their film (and even themselves!) won all the Oscars
The ones who saw roles go to white actresses over and over
The ones who changed their outward appearance to fit Caucasian standards of beauty
Thank you
for the additions!!!

I want an entire year in which Hollywood isn’t allowed to release a single film with a straight white cis male lead
just one year, just so they know what it feels like
Hope you’re ready for pretty much no money to be made then.
cease your yammering, you incompetent radish
All of Hollywood is run on one assumption: That women will watch stories about men, but men won’t watch stories about women. It is a horrible indictment of our society of we assume that one half of our population is just not interested in the other half.

Quote taken from Miss Representation, a terrific documentary ‘exploring the under-representation of women in positions of influence and taking aim at the media’s portrayal of a powerful woman’.

Black Widow: *Tied to a chair and still manages to beat up three guys and free herself*
Black Widow: *Gets Bruce Banner to join the Avengers*
Black Widow: *Tricks Loki, the god of mischief himself, into giving her valuable information*
Black Widow: *Brings Hawkeye out of his brainwashing*
Black Widow: *Doesn’t get involved with petty arguments like the rest of the Avengers and keeps her eye on the ball*
Black Widow: *Kicks ass during the alien invasion*
Black Widow: *Hijacks an alien ship so she can reach the portal and close it*
Black Widow: *Wears a costume that isn’t any more revealing than her male counterparts*
Black Widow: *Is a wonderfully three-dimensional character with a rich backstory and an overall bad ass*
Media: lol yeah she’s only in the Avengers for sex appeal
Wow, OK, I had kind of conceptualized that Joss Whedon post along the lines of “here are some random thoughts that I’m gonna store behind a cut in case a few people are interested,” not expecting so many people to reblog it. But since there was so much interest, I ended up thinking about it more. And the direction my thinking took me in was this: what is it that women find attractive in male and female characters, and to what extent does this match up with what men assume that women find attractive in these characters?
